When I first got my smartphone, I really had no intention of using it to play games. I liked the big screen and thought it was cute. However, I have been playing more and more smartphone games. In fact, it is becoming quite the trend among women to play smartphone games with their iPhones and their Android devices. I decided to go through and list the 5 greatest smartphone games for Women.

The number one smartphone game for a woman is Angry Birds. No matter who you are this game is the best available for smart phones. It can be replayed as many times as you feel like and each play through is different. It also doesn’t take too much of your time, as each round is only a minute or two long.

Another great game is Fruit Ninja, which has you slashing fruit on your screen. This game is all about beating your high score which is addictive!

Along the same lines, Tetris is a classic smartphone game,http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/special/tetrishist.html that is among the best games of all time.

The last two games on the list are Bejeweled and Tap Tap Bar. They are both addictive puzzle games that will have you playing more than you ever thought possible!

Oh, how the times are changin’.While Angry Birds once sat safely on its perch in the Apple Store’s Top Free Apps list, those days ended in early 2010 with the introduction of a new champion: a physics-based game called Bubble Ball. Players drag and rotate pieces on the playing field and use the power of gravity to guide a ball through various levels. The game itself is a stunning example of how far you can go with a good game idea and a little hard work, but the developer has been getting some press of his own. You see, Robert Nay, the game’s coder, is only 14.Even though he’s only slightly older than wireless internet, Nay shows a keen programmer’s eye and ambition. While he is visibly excited and “surprised by how well” the game is doing, he’s not resting back on his laurels. Instead, he plans to release more levels for the free version of the game, and then add more options available for purchase within the application. He also has some other game ideas in mind. Nay was assisted only slightly by his mother, Kari Nay, who drew some of the levels for the game and submitted the title to different online marketplaces.Robert coded the game using Ansca Mobile’s Corona SDK in just over a month. His other hobbies and activities include playing the piano and trumpet, reading science fiction, and attending middle schoolThe young Nay represents a bright future for mobile gamesone in which smartphone users who say to themselves “I could do better” after playing a game actually go ahead and prove it. The media buzz that surrounded Nay with the release of the game will surely fade, but MobileGD will be keeping an eye on young Robert in the futurewhen we’re not playing his new game, that is.

When people think of fun, a health insurance company isn’t one of the subjects that leaps to mind. However, US company Humana is looking to change that with their new “Games for Health” initiative. You might be wondering how a mobile game could improve your health more quickly than just going outside for a walk, but hold your skepticism: at least Humana is trying something unique. The first game, “Colorfall”, was released in June. The game is puzzle-based and requires the player to take pictures of objects in accordance with differently-colored tokens. The player then arranges those tokens in the color of the rainbow. Further confounding expectations, the game currently has all 5-star reviews.Another game, “Gold Walker”, puts players in the shoes of a California gold minerliterally. You carry gold in the game based on how far you walk in actual life. In-game activities include staking your claim, buying equipment, and hiring workers to assist you in your quest. Although this title was also released in June, it currently has no reviews. It will be interesting to see if this project pays off for Humana. The games are 0.99 per download, and are the result of a partnership with developer Persuasive Games. The developer creates original games for clients designed to advertise andpersuade. Some of their previous clients include Best Buy, Howard Dean for America, and US Aid. The game “Food Import Folly”, which puts players in the exciting role of an FDA inspector, was created for the New York Times. While interesting, these games will probably remain mere amusements unless there is proof that they bring in more clients for Humana. If these projects actually take off, you can expect to see many more companies following in their footstepsperhaps playing “Gold Walker” at the same time.

Those of you who are excited about the release of the Windows Phone 7 this October now have yet another reason. Microsoft has announced the creation of a new development studio which will be specifically targeted at gaming on the WP7 and other platforms. This means seeing a Microsoft Games Studios title like Halo or Age of Empires might not be so far off. Another feature, announced all the way back in March, is the WP7′s ability to sync with the Xbox 360 and Windows PCa first across smartphone platforms. This will allow users to play the same game across all three platforms, continuing it as they go about their day. This new announcement could be what it takes to set the Windows Phone apart from the crowd. Some critics believe that the OS will not be able to compete with iPhone or Android, especially since Microsoft has said the phone will release with missing features. These features will be added via update when they are “complete”, but without a definite time period, this could limit the Windows Phone in its sales.Microsoft owns a number of popular franchises which could appear on mobile devices. In addition to Age of Empires and Halo, there’s Crackdown, Fable, Project Gotham Racing, Viva Pinata, and more. Project Gotham Racing has already had one mobile game released in 2007, and Viva Pinata has appeared on the Nintendo DS. While it may be difficult to translate more open-ended games like Fable to a mobile device, Microsoft may continue to surprise everyone. With its new focus on mobile game development, the sky’s the limit for the company. A preview version was released on July 18, 2010, with the device itself set to release in October of this year.

In the world of next-gen consoles, a company that published titles as diverse as Guitar Hero, Project Gotham Racing, and Sonic the Hedgehog would be one of the most well-known and beloved in the business. The fact that Glu Mobile publishes titles on mobile devices means its name is less familiar, but doesn’t mean its games are any less developed. Plus, Glu has partnerships with brands like Atari, Konami, Microsoft, and more, meaning it can develop titles in a variety of well-respected brands.Glu also develops original properties, such as the recently-released Jump O’Clock. The game promises a fully unique experience, putting you in control of a diminutive robot named LE0 in an upwardly-scrolling platformer with infinite size. That means the game ends when you do, whether you fall prey to a spinning buzz-saw or simply miss a jump. There are also challenges to complete in the vein of PS3 Trophies or Xbox 360 Achievements. The most distinctive aspect is the art style, though, which draws the player into a captivating steampunk universe and is sure to have you checking out more of Glu’s titles.Glu’s upcoming title, Escape from Nom, looks like it could capture the same charm and whimsy, while also providing an addictive gameplay experience. The story concerns brightly-colored, shapeless globs named Noms who endlessly pursue the main character, Alan. Gameplay consists of jumping into different-colored liquids to escape particular Noms. The game is set to be released sometime in August. You can often tell a company’s strengths from the way it treats its fans and employees, and Glu has plenty of respect for both. Each month, it honors a gamer who has demonstrated their love of the company’s titles, and it also posts photos from company bowling games and other activities on the blog. If you’re looking for exciting mobile games on your favorite device, look no further than Gluwe guarantee their games will stick with you.

In today’s next-gen world, developers have more tools than ever when it comes to crafting beautiful-looking games. While graphics aren’t an automatic indicator of fun gameplay, they can still blow the socks off people who never expected they’d be holding such a good-looking game in the palm of their hands. Here are a few that have wowed us recently.

Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor This action/puzzle game for the iPhone looks even better on the iPad, where you can see all the details that developer Tiger Style worked in. You take control of a spider spinning his way through the aforementioned manor. Gnats, ladybugs, wasps, and more fly through the foreground, and the background is made up of decorative columns, platforms, and mysterious objects like wedding rings and picture which add to the story.

Broken Sword: Director’s Cut The Broken Sword series dates back to 1996, and has garnered critical acclaim since then. Due to the simple point-and-tap nature of gameplay, there’s a lot of room for beautiful graphics as you uncover a mystery related to the Knights Templar.

Newton’s Cannonball This game features 3D graphics and an NVIDIA PhysX engine to squeeze all it can out of the iPhone system. As the cannonball races across the screen taking out hordes of Egyptian monsters, you’ll forget that the phone can actually make calls, too.

Meow Meow Happy Fight If you enjoy Japanese art styles, you’ll love this frenetic shooter, where you play a giant Happy Cat from the future that comes back in time and wreaks havoc on Tokyo. The game’s unique style is even more impress considering its size, with 24 levels and 15 different characters.

Street Fighter IV The fact that this game can look even better than SNES-era Street Fighter still amazes us, and has to be seen to be believed. Honestly, they speak for themselves.

A new competitor could eventually be stepping into the ring that currently includes Apple’s iPhone, Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, and other next-gen smartphones. A representative for Amazon’s Lab 126the Amazon development team which created the Kindle e-readermentioned that Amazon was considering whether such a project was “out of reach” for its next device. Considering the popularity of the Kindle, as well as the international success of Amazon itself, the answer feels like it should lean toward “no”, but we’ll have to wait and see.A mobile phone would be as monumental a leap for the company as the Kindle was in 2007. But then again, Amazon is a company devoted to growth. Founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994, the site grew from an online book retailer to one of the largest online stores worldwide. In the UK, Amazon is the number one music and video retailer, and the third biggest retailer overall. It’s likely that we’ll see other devices from Lab126 before an Amazon iPhone-killer, however. Something in line with the iPad may be more likely. The Lab126 representative also mentioned MP3 players as one possible route. Apple’s iPod still retains dominance in this sector, with devices like Microsoft’s Zune periodically offering some stout competition. Lab126 could lead the way to a more affordably-priced alternative.Whatever decision Amazon makes in this regard will be based on how best it can continue to offer digital content. Apple is competing with the Kindle e-book platform with its iBooks app, and Google is also looking to open its own e-bookstore later in the year. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more announcements on this front as it develops.
